The Opportunity
The Chemical and Biomedical Engineering School (CBE) integrates the expertise and capabilities that allows us to setup large-scale tests and deploy promising ideas quickly and broadly. We encompass mining, energy, material science, the environment, medical devices, medical imaging, drug delivery and food production. To keep working on our fundamental research, we now have an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to lead and develop fatigue and failure criteria of equine bone.

Why we need you
In this exciting collaborative multi-disciplinary opportunity, our focus is on providing research leadership in the area of biomechanical engineering. The project is part of the exciting work at the University of Melbourne in equine research, that includes developing experiments and computational models to investigate fatigue and failure criteria for bone.

The role
As the Research Fellow, you will play an integral role in developing this exciting research program by carrying out experimental research and will be expected to perform complex stress analysis on bone structures. You will be encouraged to collaborate in research across the School, University and affiliations to constantly improve and help to enrich our collaborative and interdisciplinary research. You will also be given the opportunity to be involved in supervision of students working on related projects.

To be successful, it is essential that you have experience in the development of research projects and collaborations, and the development of new techniques. You will conduct independent research, leading the preparation and publication of research outcomes for at least 1-2 conferences and journals.

What you’ll need:

  • PhD degree in a mechanical or biomedical engineering or equivalent practical experience with high quality research
  • A record of quality research in biomechanical modelling and experimentation as evidenced by your research publications in leading conferences and journals
  • Experience in the implementation of biomechanical experiments
  • Proven experience in fostering partnerships resulting in successful collaborative research outcomes
  • Relevant industry experience and/or experience as a researcher in a lab, maintaining lab equipment and accurate research records, communicating research concepts and be an outstanding contributor to our team and projects
  • Superior written and analytical skills including the ability to conduct critical appraisal of relevant literature and write academic reports of publishable standard
