The Doherty Institute with the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Services, and other partners across the University of Melbourne require an experienced Senior Consultant to develop a vision and strategy to guide One Health research across the University.
One Health, or ‘Planetary Health’ are concepts that recognises the exquisite interconnectedness of the health and wellbeing of humans, animals and the environment. These complex interactions take place in the context of changing ecosystems driven by factors including human population growth and mobility, high intensity agriculture, encroachment on wildlife habitats environmental and climate change.
In infectious diseases, this interconnectedness facilitates the emergence of new diseases through cross-species exposure to transmissible organisms, mobile genetic elements, antimicrobials and other selective pressures. Such exposure may occur through direct interaction between humans and animals in domestic, agricultural or natural environments, require intermediate hosts or vectors that connect species, result from food contamination or dispersal by wildlife or natural forces.
To be successful in this role, you will have experience in program development, strategic planning, and options appraisals. You will also have strong project management skills and experience in dealing with senior level stakeholders.
