School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (CBE)

The CBE School integrates the expertise and capabilities of the Chemical and the Biomedical Engineering Departments. The resulting mix of skills creates new horizons for engineering and enables the realisation of transformative new ideas into practical innovation. This ranges from the development of bionic prosthetic implants to remediation of Antarctic landscapes. The sweep of technological applications is vast, and we are focused on end-use inspired research.

We encompass mining, energy, material science, the environment, medical devices, medical imaging, drug delivery and food production. Our goal is to facilitate knowledge acquisition, research excellence, and its translation into technological, societal, industrial, environmental and medical innovation.

The Opportunity

We have received ARC Discovery grant funding to develop polymers and synthetically derived DNA that will amplify and test biological activity and are now looking for an outstanding Research Fellow to join us on a one year appointment.  This exciting research will work on the synthesis of novel monomers with nucleotide moieties and various polymerisation techniques.

The Role

You will play an integral role in delivering the outcomes of our ARC discovery grant. Your strong experimental skills in polymer science and organic chemistry and a passion to relate this to the biological sciences, will be key in delivering a solid research program for the preparation of DNA templates for biomolecular studies. You will develop research methods and standard operating procedures and conduct experiments with minimal experimental error.

You will be an advocate for our research actively communicating research outcomes and identifying other sources of funding to support our project. You will have a track record in publishing in top quality journals and will produce publications in areas arising from your research in peer reviewed journals.

You will have a passion for research and your success in this role will come through your ability to flex between independent and collaborative research work. As an active member of the CBE team you will take part in departmental and research group meetings and also be involved in supervision or co-supervision of Masters students in the research area.
