The Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE) is at the forefront of innovation in education, working with partners in schools, early childhood settings, communities, government and beyond, constantly seeking new and improved ways to support Australia's education system.

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow Appointment at MGSE, to be awarded to an outstanding scholar to undertake three years of research within a research longitudinal research program of Australian youth and young adults, in the field of sociology of youth, including in one or more of the following research areas: sociology of education, higher education, employment, youth transitions, living conditions, wellbeing, social class, gender, generations, belonging, and rurality.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be part of the Youth Research Centre, with the Life Patterns research team that has an excellent track record in producing high quality research outputs and provides a supportive and collaborative research environment. The Life Patterns research project tracks the lives of two generations of Australians: one since 1991 and the other since 2005. The team is led by Distinguished Professor Johanna Wyn, with CIs Professor Helen Cahill and Associate Professor Dan Woodman, senior researchers Associate Professor Hernan Cuervo and Dr Jenny Chesters, and international partner Professor Carmen Leccardi (University of Milano-Biccoca).

As the successful applicant you will have completed your PhD within the last 5 years and demonstrate:

  • evidence of a developing research profile in the relevant areas;
  • an interest in and knowledge of the field of sociology of youth, and the related research areas;

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research performance of MGSE through publishing, assisting with external research funding applications, supervising Research Higher Degree Students and contributing to the teaching of the Life Patterns research team.
