About the Role
This new position is supported by philanthropic and Federal government funding. It provides a unique opportunity for an outstanding scholar to lead research in the field of global diaspora studies, coordinate and deliver teaching on aspects of Hellenic culture and cosmopolitanism, and engage with the wider public on the relevance of Hellenism and its contributions to contemporary understandings of multiculturalism and the experience of diasporic communities.
The appointee will also be involved in establishing teaching and research partnerships with higher education institutions and relevant cultural organisations elsewhere in Australia and overseas. They will undertake teaching and research in their discipline or related areas. They will make a significant contribution to teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level, and undertake research appropriate to their discipline.
In a typical week at work, you may:
- Coordinate and deliver subjects.
- Provide curriculum design and innovation, including cross-disciplinary approaches.
- Produce research outputs including (but not limited to) peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books, creative works and commissioned reports.
- Actively engage in service, leadership and coordination roles in the discipline, School and Faculty demonstrating respectful, inclusive behaviours at all times and building trust amongst colleagues.
You will bring excellence in teaching, and outstanding leadership in scholarly areas, with the skills to initiate course development, particularly in areas of Greek culture and language. Your strong research and publication record will be recognised at a national level, able to attract research grants and collaborations. You will be experienced in course coordination, as well as in the supervision of graduate research.
Ideally, you will further have:
- A completed PhD in a relevant discipline and demonstrated interest in Hellenic culture and its broader relations to the theory and practice of cosmopolitanism, multiculturalism and/or diaspora studies
- A strong record in research with an established publication profile
- Demonstrated capacity for multidisciplinary and collaborative research
- Capacity to attract research grants and consultancies
