About the School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering
The School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering undertakes teaching and research across a range of disciplines that are internationally recognised for their contribution to fundamental research. It has a number of well-established industry linkages and international partnerships. It is building a vibrant profile of interdisciplinary research, working with industry with an aim to contribute to society. It offers a comprehensive range of accredited Masters of Engineering and Master of Information Technology programs taught through the Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure departments as well as professional Masters programs. It has a substantial cohort of research higher degree students. A major focus of the school is to attract and retain outstanding and internationally recognised academic staff. The School is committed through strategy, culture and mentorship to increasing the number of female engineers and scientists on its staff.

About the Role
The Department of Infrastructure Engineering in the School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in the Geomatics Discipline in the field of Land Administration, with the aim to strengthen further the Geomatics discipline’s expertise and broaden its academic network and industry engagement.

The successful candidate will be a person with expertise in Land Administration Systems. Example areas of research will include but are not limited to modernization of land administration systems, urban land administration, 3D cadaster, BIM, digital twin analytics, innovative 3D/4D sensing, or related topics. This candidate could contribute to building- or precinct information modelling.

Responsibilities include:

  • Actively engage academic and industry partners to establish effective collaborations between multidisciplinary groups across the school, the university, and national and international research/industry partners in relevant areas of research
  • Contribute to the delivery of relevant subjects in the University’s undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, in particular in land and spatial programs, as directed by the Discipline Leader and Head of Department
  • Build and foster partnerships with industry, government, collaborators at other universities, and other stakeholders that contribute to teaching and research

In addition to the above, responsibilities for appointments at Level C/ D will include:

  • Make original and innovative contributions to scholarship, research and teaching in Geomatics
  • Supervise both undergraduate and graduate students and play a significant role in research projects including, where appropriate, leadership of a research team;
  • Foster collaborations with other scientists to develop a multidisciplinary approach to research.

About You
You will be passionate and dynamic in research and teaching. You will be able to develop recognized and innovative research portfolios, as well as establish funding streams to support these portfolios. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to enhance the industry engagement targets and will also be competent to represent surveying in their teaching at all levels, and to contribute to the curriculum innovation within Geomatics and cognate disciplines.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in Geomatics or a cognate discipline
  • A track record of quality research as evidenced by research publications in high-quality journals, conferences and technical reports
  • Capacity to teach effectively and develop high quality learning experiences and assessment tools across a broad range of subjects, including the capacity to develop and deliver seminars and lectures and other teaching activities

In addition to the above for appointment at Level C (Senior Lecturer):

  • A strong publication record and demonstrated independence of scholarship
  • A successful record of attracting competitive research funding
  • Experience in supervision of research higher degree students to timely completion

 

In addition to the above for appointment at Level D (Associate Professor):

  • A strong academic leadership and publication records
  • Demonstrated ability to teach small and large classes effectively at tertiary level including design and project studies in civil and other infrastructure engineering disciplines and to develop courses and courses material
  • A successful track record of engaging industry, government and wider community in teaching and research
