About the Role
The Methods and Implementation Support for Clinical and Health (MISCH) research Hub based at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health is seeking a biostatistician to contribute to the design, analysis and reporting of observational studies and clinical trials. The role will be advising on the statistical aspects of clinical research such as study design and sample size determination, perform statistical analyses of data, prepare reports and contribute to publications presenting research findings. At MISCH, you will be part of a group of researchers in biostatistics and clinical epidemiology who provide collaborative research support. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and career as a biostatistician in observational studies and clinical trials while working in a collaborative academic research environment. The position is available for 12 months.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in research as a collaborating biostatistician in a broader research team
  • Contributing to the statistical aspects and writing of research proposals (e.g. grants, trial protocols), performing sample size calculations, database review, randomisation, writing statistical analysis plans, and preparing study reports.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively conveying statistical concepts to individuals with limited statistical knowledge. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams to achieve project goals and meet deadlines. Proficiency in applying research methodologies and quantitative data analysis is essential. Experience with statistical software such as Stata or R for data handling and analysis is required. Additionally, the candidate should have the ability to maintain high work standards under guidance and manage multiple projects concurrently.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in Biostatistics or statistics or health data science
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills, including effective communication of statistical concepts to people with limited statistical knowledge.
  • Experience in or willingness to participate in the supervision or co-supervision of postgraduate and PhD students.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. The Methods and Implementation Support for Clinical and Health research (MISCH, http://clinicalresearch.mdhs.unimelb.edu.au/) Hub is a University of Melbourne (Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences) initiative for supporting the conduct of health, clinical and basic research by providing access to biostatistics, health economics, health informatics, and implementation effectiveness and co-design expertise. As a biostatistician, you will be part of the MISCH Hub within the Biostatistics Unit at the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health.
