About the Role

As the Strategy & Operations Manager (SOM) for the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology, you will drive strategic and operational excellence by advising and supporting the Head of Department. Reporting to the School Manager, you will be the key player in aligning the department's goals with the broader objectives of the School, Faculty, and University. This senior level role involves cultivating strong relationships with academic and professional staff, ensuring seamless support services, and leading teams that enhance administrative and teaching operations. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Actively participate in senior leadership, contributing to strategic planning, and providing high-level support and advice to key stakeholders on strategic and operational matters.
  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans; monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and recommend changes to optimize effectiveness
  • Guide the development of integrated resource and operational plans; oversee the annual budget preparation, monitor financial performance, and propose corrective actions for budget discrepancies.

Who We Are Looking For

You will excel in building meaningful relationships across diverse stakeholders with your exceptional communication skills and high emotional intelligence. With a calm, positive, and collaborative approach, you'll bring strategic thinking and innovative solutions to drive continuous improvement, effectively managing change in complex organisational settings.

You will also have:

  • Completed a postgraduate degree or undergraduate degree qualifications with extensive relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience of creating an inclusive, imaginative, positive, team-focused, and inspiring environment where everyone works together to enhance the employee and student experience
  • Extensive financial management skills, which involves the use of financial systems and budgeting and forecasting.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
