About the Role
The Sustainable Healthcare Manager at the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS) will lead and coordinate sustainability initiatives, focusing on healthcare's impact on climate change and environmental sustainability. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Healthcare Sustainability, the SH Manager will drive the development of an MDHS Sustainability Plan, assess current teaching and research in sustainable healthcare, and collaborate with staff across the University and affiliated institutions to advance sustainability efforts.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engage with students across the MDHS Faculty in the fields of healthcare sustainability, climate change and planetary health.
  • Provide expert project management, delivering on Faculty and Chancellery initiatives, in collaboration with Faculty Directors, School Managers and Faculty leadership
  • Manage the development and implementation of project plans to stated objectives
  • Report in detail what teaching and learning capacity is occurring in healthcare sustainability, climate change, and planetary health within MDHS, and recommend suggestions for enhancing such teaching programs.
  • Develop with the A/Dean Healthcare Sustainability and other MDHS Staff (e.g. the Climate CATCH Lab team) an MDHS Sustainability Plan.

Who We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will excel in managing complex projects, making informed decisions, and building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. They will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, a collaborative approach, and the ability to engage with academic and non-academic staff. The successful applicant will be able to act relatively independently to drive sustainability changes within MDHS, including the teaching of healthcare sustainability within MDHS, and develop an overarching MDHS Sustainability Strategy. Additionally, they will have a passion for research and policy development, particularly in healthcare sustainability and climate change.

You will also have:

  • Undergraduate qualification in a relevant area such as healthcare and/or environmental science (Masters preferred, but not essential).
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects, or sets of projects and initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex judgments and decisions and provide recommendations for resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to perform quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis under a range of research methodologies.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
