Graduate Engineer

About the Role
The Graduate Engineer plays a vital role in the Workshop by designing sketches that translate into practical, buildable solutions. They assist the Workshop Manager with various tasks, including managing orders, sourcing suppliers, and overseeing workshop access. Collaborating with the workshop services team, the Graduate Engineer helps plan and prepare for the Faculty's transition into new research and teaching environments, ensuring the operationalisation of these facilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and innovate product designs, systems, or prototypes that meet specified requirements and project goals to enhance user experience.
  • Assist the Workshop Manager with various workshop needs, including machinery maintenance, security access, and booking management to optimise facility usage.
  • Implement clear protocols and processes to facilitate the operationalisation of new research and teaching facilities.
  • Offer design support to the workshop services team throughout the production process, ensuring efficiency, safety, and high product quality while aiding teaching and research users in accessing workshop services.

Who we are looking for
You will possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, enabling you to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. With a customer service mindset, you have a proven track record of maintaining high-quality service for a diverse range of customers, alongside demonstrated knowledge of Australian occupational health and safety legislation and laboratory regulatory requirements, including experience managing OHS standards in multidisciplinary laboratories. 

You will also have:

  • An engineering degree and relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software, computer-aided design (CAD) tools, and other relevant engineering software.
  • Experience working in a team within a scientific or medical laboratory environment or similar.
  • Experience in a tertiary education environment.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
