About the Role
Join Melbourne University Sport (MU Sport) as the General Manager and play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the department, Advisory Board, and affiliated sporting clubs.
In this role, you will oversee the delivery of financial, human resources, OHS, administrative, and IT systems and processes necessary to achieve the department’s strategic objectives while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation. Reporting to the Director, you will lead the development of policy, strategic, and operational planning activities and foster a positive and collaborative staff culture.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic team and a prestigious university. Additionally, you will have the chance to serve as Secretary to the Advisory Board in the Director’s absence, further contributing to the leadership and governance of MU Sport.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide high level financial planning advice to the Board, Director and management group to secure and efficiently utilise resources
- Provide annual and quarterly financial, participation, risk and asset management and other reports as required
- Provide efficient and high-quality department wide business services and systems to ensure the professional management
- Provide high-level advice to the Advisory Board, Director, other manager and staff, club executive committees and advisory groups
- Meet regularly with staff to monitor performance against the operational plan, oversee and coordinate projects and strategic tasks, manage significant issues, monitor financial performance and general work area operations
We're looking for
We’re seeking an individual with a genuine passion for sport and recreation. You will bring strong leadership experience and skills, paired with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities that enable you to present information clearly and effectively to the Director, the Advisory Board, and other stakeholders.
Your organisational and analytical expertise will be essential for prioritising competing workloads, delegating tasks, and meeting deadlines in a high-pressure environment. With these qualities, you’ll thrive in this dynamic role, contributing to the success of Melbourne University Sport.
- Extensive experience in management
- Experience in relationship management and a highly developed service focussed skill set to interact and negotiate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team of staff and provide effective human resource management skills, including conflict resolution and staff management
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic and operational plans and establish, implement and review policies, procedures and initiatives
- Extensive high-level finance experience, including budgeting and reporting.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
