About the Role
Operating within the world-renowned Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation’s Grimwade Conservation Services team, the role involves independently conducting conservation treatments for diverse clients, including public and private collections, while adhering to ethical and professional standards. You will be responsible for developing treatment proposals, preparing detailed reports, and providing expert guidance to a multidisciplinary team. The position also offers the chance to engage in public programmes and contribute to academic initiatives, while ensuring the continued success of Grimwade Conservation Services through strong client relationships and meticulous project management.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing conservation treatments and project work independently, in consultation with senior conservators when required, while adhering to time and budget constraints.
  • Developing treatment proposals, preparing detailed reports, and providing commercially viable quotes for clients, in alignment with current conservation research and ethical standards.
  • Supporting and supervising team members, including interns, volunteers, and assistant conservators, to enhance their skills and ensure effective project delivery.
  • Maintaining strong client relationships, promoting Grimwade Conservation Services, and ensuring the implementation of workplace Standard Operating Procedures and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Who We Are Looking For
You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to engage effectively with clients, team members, and external stakeholders alike. Your ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team is essential, as is your capacity to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines with precision. Demonstrating a keen attention to detail and a commitment to upholding the highest professional standards, you approach all tasks with integrity and a strong sense of responsibility. Your proactive and solution-oriented mindset allows you navigate complex challenges with confidence and contribute positively to the team’s success.

You also have:

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in conservation, with over 5 years of substantial professional experience in object conservation.
  • Proven technical proficiency and experience in the successful completion of object conservation projects.
  • Expertise in preparing detailed, accurate reports that meet professional standards.
  • A commitment to ethical conservation practices, with knowledge of international standards and the AICCM Codes of Ethics and Practice.
