About the Role
The Western Precinct Lead provides facilities support and engineering expertise to ensure the reliable operation of complex buildings within the Parkville Campus Medical Precinct (including the Western Precinct, Melbourne Brain Centre, Howard Florey Laboratories and Medical buildings). This role delivers technical guidance, trusted advice, and exceptional service to a diverse range of stakeholders, supporting teaching and research activities. Operating within University policies and compliance requirements, the position ensures facilities are maintained to their full potential.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating engineering activities and building infrastructure operations to support core teaching and research requirements while minimising disruptions.
- Leading a small team of Operations Officers, ensuring site coverage, strong stakeholder engagement, and high-quality customer service.
- Identifying, prioritising, and mitigating infrastructure risks to maintain safety, compliance, and business continuity.
- Managing asset monitoring systems, preparing building operations and asset replacement budgets, reviewing and updating the Asset Management Plan, and ensuring facilities services comply with University policies, including OHS and contract management.
- Representing Campus Management at a range of stakeholder meeting forums and delivering on responsibilities under relevant building management agreements.
Who we are looking for
You will provide effective leadership, mentorship, and direction to a small facilities team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability. With excellent stakeholder management skills, you will work closely with engineers, researchers, and various levels of management across a range of external partners, tenants and University faculties in relation to building operational matters. Leveraging both quantitative and qualitative data the role will aim to drive improved organisational outcomes.
You will also have:
- Degree qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline or extensive experience in a related field.
- Strong project management skills and experience in operational risk management.
- Experience diagnosing faults in mechanical, electrical, and essential services infrastructure across various building and laboratory environments.
- Expertise in facilities management, including PC2 laboratory and bioresource facilities, with knowledge of compliance, regulatory requirements, and health & safety standards.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
