Opportunity
The Director of the Indigenous Law and Justice Hub at Melbourne Law School will spearhead transformative leadership, driving cutting-edge research and fostering high-impact partnerships. This position will collaborate with key stakeholders to revolutionise Indigenous law and justice scholarship whilst championing innovative curriculum development and decolonisation efforts.

The role demands a passionate advocate for Indigenous self-determination, capable of forging robust relationships with communities, legal experts, and policymakers. By securing vital funding and expanding the Hub's initiatives, the Director will play a pivotal role in effecting systemic legal and policy change, ultimately empowering Indigenous scholars and students to shape the future of justice in Australia.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Forge strategic partnerships with Indigenous organisations, communities, and stakeholders at local, national, and international levels.
  • Lead research initiatives, contribute to academic publications, and organise collaborative workshops and seminars.
  • Enhance the Hub's public profile through advocacy, engagement, and representation at various forums.
  • Provide strategic advice to MLS leadership, drive the Hub's objectives, and support Indigenous student recruitment and mentorship.
  • Contribute to teaching, curriculum development, and the decolonisation of learning approaches across MLS programmes.

About You
We’re looking for someone who is a demonstrated leader with the ability to develop and mentor a multidisciplinary team in a culturally safe and inclusive environment, fostering collaboration, professional development, and strong relationships with staff, students, stakeholders, and communities.

You will also have:

  • An appropriate degree in law or a relevant field, with a specialisation in Indigenous legal issues, regulation or law.
  • A track record of excellence working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations or affairs.
  • Extensive knowledge of Indigenous communities across Australia and relevant government and not-for-profit sectors with demonstrated ability to collaborate with partners to deliver collaborative engagement programmes.
  • A strong academic record, informed by an understanding of the history and contemporary experiences of Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islanders, together with demonstrated high-level academic research and writing skills.
  • Proven ability to implement complex legal and justice initiatives that address social challenges and drive change.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
