Join the Faculty of Arts as Research Development Manager, where you will play a pivotal role in enhancing research capability and driving impactful outcomes.

Reporting to the Faculty Research Manager, you will lead a dedicated team to develop and implement initiatives that support individual and collective research capability frameworks. 

Success in this role requires extensive relevant experience to effectively manage operations and deliver outcomes. If you have a proven track record in research development and a passion for enabling academic success, we encourage you to apply.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and manage a team of approximately four direct reports, including by ensuring high performance of staff, delegating effectively, and supporting staff professional development, including fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  • Manage the implementation of the Faculty’s interdisciplinary collective research development framework, from initiative conception to wrap-up.
  • Manage the Faculty’s overall pre-award process for all research funding, particularly HERDC Category 2-3 funding, and other relevant funding from opportunity identification to agreement execution.
  • Directly provide expert proposal development support to highly valuable, complex, and/or strategic funding proposals.
  • Grow a culture of engagement in Arts with non-traditional and/or major external funding schemes, including by fostering cross-Faculty relationships.
  • Oversee elements of research impact support across all dimensions of research impact.

We are looking for an experienced research development professional with expertise in the Australian research funding landscape and the full development lifecycle. You will have strong leadership skills, the ability to motivate teams and excellent stakeholder management ability. Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to deliver solutions are key, along with exceptional communication and professional judgment.

You also have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification with extensive professional experience in a research development role; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Deep and broad subject matter expertise spanning the full research development lifecycle, including the Australian research funding landscape.
  • Excellent operational and people management skills, including demonstrated leadership with the ability to motivate and lead staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with a range of staff across all levels.
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking, with high level conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and proven ability to deliver creative solutions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and professional judgement.
