We are seeking a skilled clinical research ethics specialist to support investigator-led clinical trials at the Doherty Institute. In this key role, you will coordinate ethics and governance submissions to ensure timely approvals and effective trial implementation.

As part of the Clinical Trial Support Team, you will foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement while building strong relationships with research teams, clinical sites, and ethics committees.

Reporting to the Clinical Research Manager, this newly created role offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge infectious disease research in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Efficiently prepare and co-ordinate all documentation required to gain Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and Research Governance Office (RGO) approval for the clinical trials under the role’s administration to a high standard
  • Be the primary point of contact for issues relating to ethics and governance submissions, as well as the status and any feedback related to the clinical trials under the role’s administration
  • Support completion of study legal agreements, including Confidentiality Agreements, Clinical Trial Research Agreements and other contracts

You may be a great fit if:
You are a detail-driven professional with a background in Health or Life Sciences and experience in coordinating Human Research Ethics applications. You bring a sound understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), relevant regulations, and proficiency in using ethics review platforms. Current GCP accreditation is essential, while at least 12 month' experience with ethics/governance processes in a medical administration or clinical research environment will be highly regarded.

You also have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Health, Life Sciences or other related qualifications, with sound knowledge of medical terminology/ scientific language
  • Demonstrated experience in the coordination and/or review of Human research ethics applications
  • Demonstrate your project management skills by prioritising tasks and balance competing deadlines
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate with a wide range of people, including researchers and other stakeholders (both internal and external)
  • Good working knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, a sound understanding of the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and an excellent knowledge of applicable Australian and international regulations and guidelines
  • Current GCP accreditation

Your new team – Department of Infectious Disease
The Department of Infectious Diseases is a recently established department of the Melbourne Medical School, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences that is based at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity (Doherty Institute). Research within the department encompasses infectious diseases including antimicrobial resistance and healthcare associated infections, malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, influenza, viral hepatitis, sexually-transmitted infections, skin pathogens and emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Our researchers come from diverse backgrounds, including discovery research and basic scientists, clinician researchers, epidemiologists, public health physicians and microbiologists.
