About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher to join the esteemed laboratory of Prof. Jose Villadangos in collaboration with Dr. Laura Cook at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. As a key member of the Cook group, you will have the chance to develop a well-funded and supported, semi-independent research program that focuses on the fundamental mechanisms of immunity. Working with primary cells, organoid models, and clinical cohort samples, you will contribute to groundbreaking projects aiming to translate discoveries into novel treatment and prevention strategies for infectious diseases and sepsis. With access to state-of-the-art resources, a collaborative team culture, and the opportunity to co-supervise students, this role offers an exciting and unique platform for your professional development in the field of translational immunology.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Independently design and carry out experiments focused on completion of research project aims.
  • Analyse experimental data independently and in a timely manner, including qualitative and statistical analysis, and communicate this information to chief investigators and collaborators.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all experiments conducted.
  • Prepare and submit competitive grant applications relating to the research program.

Who We Are Looking For
You have a strong analytical ability and maintain accurate research records. Your organisational skills allow you to prioritise tasks effectively and achieve project milestones. With initiative and minimal supervision, you demonstrate verifiable experience. Your excellent communication skills are evident through conference presentations, publications, and interactions with research teams.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, or related disciplines
  • Strong background in immunology and/or cell biology or related areas of interest
  • The ability to work with primary human tissues and/or cells according to ethical guidelines
  • Sound knowledge of biosafety issues in handling infectious agents and primary human samples and ability to adhere to the principles of good laboratory practice
  • Strong background in high-dimensional flow cytometry
