About the Role
The Department of Economics seeks a highly capable and motivated individual to join their team as an Academic Specialist Lab Manager for the Experimental Economics Lab. In this multifaceted role, you will collaborate to ensure the efficient operation of the lab, including coordinating seminars, meetings, and the lab’s digital presence. Responsibilities will extend to teaching within the Department, where you will contribute to curriculum development, innovative delivery methods, and exceptional student engagement. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to pursue research, contributing to scholarly publications and collaborative projects. This role offers a unique blend of academic and operational responsibilities, suited to an individual eager to make a meaningful impact in research, teaching, and lab management.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating and overseeing the daily operations of the Experimental Economics Lab, including meetings, events, seminars, website management, and IT requirements, while liaising with students, postdoctoral fellows, and academic researchers.
- Developing and delivering high-quality teaching activities, including lectures, tutorials, and seminars, alongside contributing to curriculum innovation, course materials, and student consultation.
- Conducting and contributing to research activities, including data collection, analysis, and preparation of publications, conference papers, and funding submissions, while collaborating on research projects and outputs.
- Managing and supporting lab protocols, including training staff and students, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring the lab operates efficiently during peak and routine periods.
Who We Are Looking For
You possess exceptional organisational and interpersonal skills, enabling you to manage diverse responsibilities with poise and efficiency. As a natural collaborator, you build strong relationships with students, colleagues, and researchers, creating a collegial and supportive environment. Your ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, allows you to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring clarity and alignment across the lab’s activities. With a proactive and adaptable mindset, you demonstrate resourcefulness in addressing challenges and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of your work. Your enthusiasm for education and research inspires those around you, contributing to a dynamic and innovative academic community.
You also have:
- A PhD in Economics or a closely related discipline, demonstrating advanced knowledge and expertise in the field.
- Proficiency in research methodologies, data analysis techniques, and relevant software tools, with proven experience in managing research projects.
- A strong record of teaching at the tertiary level, including experience with diverse student groups, curriculum development, and innovative delivery methods.
- Excellent organisational abilities, with demonstrated expertise in preparing research documents, such as grant applications, ethics submissions, and academic publications.
