About the Role
The Child Safety Advisor, part of the Safer Community Program, provides expert support and guidance on child safety across the university. The role promotes awareness of staff obligations under the Victorian Child Safe Standards and the university’s Child Safety Policy, ensuring compliance and best practices. The advisor collaborates with programs and areas involving individuals under 18 to assess and mitigate child safety risks across service delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate with colleagues across the University to develop and conduct capacity building initiatives that ensure a high degree of awareness of the Victorian Child Safe Standards, the University’s Child Safe Policy and to embed a culture of child safety in their own settings.
- In collaboration with colleagues responsible for staff and student communications, develop and disseminate child safety awareness material and resources across the University’s campuses.
- Support the review of local child safety risk assessments and in this context, provide advice to colleagues that supports the identification and mitigation of child safety risks for university events and activities where children or young people may be present or are key participants.
- Provide specialist advice and guidance to staff regarding their Child Safety obligations and other queries which relate to the University’s Child Safe Policy and Child Safe standards.
Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate possesses exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong public speaking and presentation abilities. They excel in stakeholder management, building effective relationships across all levels of an organisation.
You will also have:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of child safety legislation, and current practices associated strengthening organisational child safety responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in working with stakeholders on the identification of child safety risks to support risk mitigation strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in leading child safety capacity building and awareness raising initiatives (or equivalent) across a diverse stakeholder group.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
