About the Role
The Director of Medical Student Education role within the Department of Medical Education at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne Medical School focuses on overseeing the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at the St Vincent’s Clinical School site, located at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. Leading clinical teaching and scholarship, the incumbent serves as a key liaison between the Department of Medical Education and St Vincent’s healthcare organisation. The position requires a medically qualified individual with strong relationship-building skills, responsible for shaping a collaborative model for medical student education amidst the relocation of the Clinical School to the new Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing leadership and developing opportunities for the Department of Medical Education’s educational programs at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne 
  • Providing leadership and academic oversight of clinical teaching programs at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne 
  • MD program delivery (including teaching, learning and assessment) of Melbourne Medical School St Vincent’s based medical students 
  • Active collaboration with DME colleagues, both centrally and at the other Clinical Schools in our network, to share resources and support continuous quality improvement in teaching and learning resources for the MD 

Who We Are Looking For                                                                                                                                                               The ideal candidate excels in communication and interpersonal skills, leading teams and promoting positive workplace culture. They demonstrate expertise in developing effective relationships across medical practitioners and health professionals at all levels, ensuring successful stakeholder management across various healthcare settings. 

 

You will also have:

  • A medical qualification recognisable in Australia and Fellowship in an Australian College (e.g., FRACP, FRACGP, FACCRM etc.) and AHPRA registration in good standing 
  • A high level of involvement in professional activities at national and/or international levels 
  • Demonstrated capability of developing good working relationships with all levels of medical practitioners, and other health professionals, in hospitals, primary care and the community 
  • A commitment to supporting and advancing the role of the University within SVHM and affiliated hospitals

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
