About the Role

Join the Designing Learning Spaces for Diversity, Inclusion, and Participation ARC Linkage Project to support the quantitative aspects of the project, contributing to the future of school design for students with disability. Play a key role in determining the efficacy of school design, identifying opportunities for improvement, and disseminating research for stakeholders. This role provides a unique opportunity to work across the fields of architecture, education, and health.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work collaboratively with the cross-disciplinary research team, including PhD candidates (potentially as a co-supervisor), research assistants, and co-researchers with lived experience, to develop and coordinate the quantitative aspects of the project.
  • Conduct survey-based research with students, principals, teachers, learning support staff, allied health professionals, and parents/carers to produce deep insights into how learning environment factors enable/constrain the participation of students with disabilities in learning/school.
  • Engage effectively with partner organisations across disciplines and sectors, including people with lived experience of disability, service providers, and policymakers in the design, delivery, and dissemination of the research.
  • Prepare presentations and publications as lead and/or co-author for dissemination locally, nationally, and/or internationally.

Who We Are Looking For

We’re looking for candidates who can engage effectively with researchers and partner organisations across disciplines and sectors, including people with lived experience of disability, service providers, and policymakers in the design, delivery, and dissemination of the research. A strong interest in the built environment and commitment to and experience of engaging with people with lived experience of disability as co-researchers would be an advantage.

The ideal candidate will be organised and self-motivated, with skills in project management, effective relationship building, and a people-centred mindset. While an understanding of the needs of people with lived experience of a disability is desirable, it is not essential. Additionally, they will have demonstrated skills in survey data management and bivariate analysis (e.g., correlations). Experience working with large datasets e.g. <1000, and multivariate and/or statistical modelling within mixed methods designs is desirable.

You will also have:

  • Doctoral qualification (or near completion) in education, program evaluation, built environment, behavioural or social sciences related fields.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in quantitative methods, including survey development, implementation, data analysis, interpretation, and dissemination.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop, implement, and report on evaluations of programs and/or facilities (i.e., post occupancy evaluations) or similar.
  • A track record, commensurate with opportunity, of quality research in relevant fields, as evidenced by research publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in project and time management, with demonstrated ability to develop and achieve clear goals through innovative and effective strategies.
  • An interest in the lived experience of people with disability.

For further information regarding responsibilities and requirements, please refer to the attached PD.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This role requires current valid work rights for Australia.

Your New Team – LEaRN

LEaRN is a network of academia, practitioners, industry, and government agencies in Australia and overseas exploring the intersections between teaching and learning and the built environment. As a research network, LEaRN collaborates with partners across various sectors, including education, architecture, health, design, furniture, ICT, and government and private school systems. The network aims to provide an intellectual space to focus on the relationships between pedagogy and space across all educational environments, from early years’ settings through to schools, tertiary environments and the workplace. Communicating LEaRN’s research to non-academics is critical to the group’s engagement approach. In addition to this you will find an inclusive, fun, and dynamic team who will support your successful transition into the role.
