About the Role
This exciting role supports the implementation of innovative health and safety programs across the University. As a key member of the Health and Safety team, you will contribute to maintaining compliance, managing critical areas like chemical inventories, and delivering engaging training programs. By collaborating closely with stakeholders, you will play a vital role in enhancing the University's safety culture and fostering a proactive risk management environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning, coordinating, and executing key health and safety programs, including system management, regulatory compliance, and training initiatives, ensuring timely completion and adherence to University standards.
- Assisting in identifying and implementing process improvements, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations, and supporting incident investigations and regulatory reporting.
- Developing and disseminating effective communication materials to promote safety awareness, engaging stakeholders, and supporting the continuous improvement of the University's health and safety programs.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health and Safety professional with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and effectively manage multiple projects. Experience in managing chemical inventories, conducting risk assessments, and implementing safety programs within a complex organisation is essential.
You will also have:
- Qualifications in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, standards, and codes.
- Previous experience working in Health and Safety within a large and complex organisation is required.
- Familiarity with operational chemical - handling, use, transit and disposal and chemical inventory management systems (e.g., ChemWatch).

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
