About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career researcher to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in cybersecurity, AI safety, and data privacy. Based in the highly ranked School of Computing and Information Systems at The University of Melbourne, you will have the chance to collaborate with leading academics and industry partners while developing your independent research profile. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting independent research in data privacy, AI safety, and cybersecurity, leading to high-impact publications.
- Contributing to teaching and supervision in cybersecurity-related subjects (e.g., web security, software security), including mentoring PhD and master’s students.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including industry partners, to drive impactful research.
- Actively participating in grant applications, research dissemination, and departmental activities.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a motivated and innovative researcher with a strong passion for cybersecurity, trustworthy AI/ML, and data privacy. You will excel in problem-solving, thrive in a collaborative environment, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
You will also have:
- A PhD (or near completion) in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- A strong research track record, including publications in leading cybersecurity journals (e.g., TDSC, TIFS) and conferences (e.g., USENIX Security, CCS, S&P).
- Proficiency in system engineering, algorithm design, and threat modelling.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
