About the Role
The Commercial Manager is responsible for overseeing the commercial aspects of all professional services activities within the University, driving alignment with strategic objectives and ensuring procurement outcomes deliver measurable value. This role leads the development and implementation of procurement strategies, engages senior stakeholders, and fosters partnerships to support high-value services categories, including a focus on ESG initiatives. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing processes, managing stakeholder relationships, and driving continuous improvement in procurement services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide advice and recommendations in relation to opportunities to improve procurement practices and/or ideas for expanding the range of categories with preferred supplier arrangements in place.
- Provide high level advice and recommendations to the Associate Director, in relation to opportunities for continuous improvement, revenue and benefit generation in procurement arrangements.
- Manage competitive bids and sourcing process, through market sounding exercises, across multiple categories, always ensuring adherence to UoM procurement policies.
- Thorough understanding of Contracts relating to Services/Projects across a variety of categories with attention to licensing and subscriptions.
Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to guide teams, influence stakeholders, and negotiate solutions that meet project goals. They bring high-level organisational skills, initiative, and a positive, proactive approach to prioritising tasks and delivering projects, while engaging stakeholders effectively and driving value-focused outcomes.
You will also have:
- Relevant post-graduate qualification or an equivalent combination of experience and education / training.
- Extensive experience working in strategic procurement environments, and project related space.
- Thorough understanding of Contracts relating to Service/Projects across a variety of categories (Professional Services, Recruitment/Talent, Corporate Services, Travel & Marketing).
- Demonstrated ability to adopt the concept of being the "commercial owners" for their areas of spend, and in doing so, manage and drive all aspects of their activities to ensure a "manage for success" outcome.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
