Your next career opportunity
The School of Social and Political Sciences is seeking a committed and engaging Lecturer in Development Studies to contribute to innovative teaching within the program.

With expertise in Development and Environmental Sustainability, Health and Development, or Rural Development, you will play a key role in delivering engaging undergraduate and graduate-level teaching. Your contribution will extend across the Master of Development Studies, the undergraduate Minor in Development Studies, and, if required, the Master of Leadership for Development.

Beyond the classroom, you will drive high-quality research that leads to publications with top-tier publishers. You will also develop and foster strong national and international partnerships, ensuring that your work has real-world impact.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Subject coordination including the supervision of sessional tutors (administrative and academic)
  • Curriculum design and innovation, including cross-disciplinary approaches
  • Development of technology-based teaching, learning and assessment programs and resources
  • Design and delivery of overseas subjects and other student mobility programs
  • Teaching and learning innovation grants (nationally competitive and peer reviewed)
  • Undertake supervision of theses at Honours and Masters by coursework level
  • Publications, including (but not limited to) peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books, creative outputs and commissioned reports
  • Research grants and external research income (emphasis on competitive, international and peer-reviewed)

Applications are invited from academics with an established or developing record of excellence and innovation in teaching and research, evidenced by your knowledge and understanding of the learning orientations of a diverse student cohort and track record of high-quality publications,

As the successful candidate, you will have an excellent research profile, with a track record of grant success and high-quality publications.

You may also:

  • A completed PhD in Development Studies or a closely related discipline
  • Proven research expertise in one or more of the following areas:  Political Economy of Development; Health and Development; and Rural Development
  • Demonstrated ability for innovation and excellence in course development, coordination and delivery
  • Ability to supervise postgraduate coursework degree theses
  • A strong record in research with an emerging high-quality publication profile 
  • Demonstrated capacity for independent and collaborative research of high standards
  • Capacity to attract research grants and consultancies 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the learning orientations of a diverse student cohort, combined with the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding to create a highly inclusive student learning environment
