Your responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Leadership: Develop innovative programs and implement strategic initiatives to advance medical education and research.
• Research Excellence: Lead distinguished research programs, secure grants, and foster cross-disciplinary collaborations.
• Educational Innovation: Enhance the quality of graduate medical researchers and research training, improving their learning experiences.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build partnerships with hospital executives, clinical bodies, and industry leaders to advance the department's goals.

About You 
You are a visionary leader with a distinguished track record in medical research and PhD supervision, capable of fostering excellence and driving innovation in a complex academic-clinical environment.

You will also have:

• Current clinical registration and membership of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, with a PhD in medicine or related field.
• International recognition as a clinician-scientist with a portfolio of influential research outputs and presentations.
• Proven success in obtaining significant competitive research funding from sources like MRFF, NHMRC, or NIH.
• Strong ability to build successful partnerships and mentor junior clinician-researchers.
• Demonstrated experience in academic leadership within a hospital and university setting.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. About Austin Health
Austin Health comprises the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre. The Austin Hospital is one of the state’s largest adult hospitals with over 400 acute beds. It is internationally renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation. 

Austin Health is one of the five hospital sites of the Department of Medicine at the University of Melbourne. It consists of research, clinical and teaching staff and facilities at both the Austin Hospital site and the Heidelberg Repatriation hospital. The position is based at the Austin hospital site but travel across all Department of Medicine sites and the University of Melbourne at Parkville will be required. As of January 2025, there are 67 salaried academic/professional Staff and 95 honorary academic staff within he Department of Medicine at the Austin.
