About the Role 
The Contracts Officer plays a vital role in facilitating and managing research agreements efficiently. They provide valuable commercial advice to internal stakeholders and ensure smooth collaboration within the Research Contracts team and with other university departments. Compliance with health and safety standards and adherence to the university's risk management framework are integral aspects of this role. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Review, advise on, negotiate and finalise research and commercial engagement agreements, seeking further legal advice or review as necessary 
  • Organise approval and signing of research and commercial engagement agreements by appropriate delegates 
  • Build strong working relationships with researchers, staff within RIC, Faculty staff and external customers to ensure that RIC is easy to do business with 

Who we are looking for 
The successful candidate should possess a law degree and extensive experience in drafting and negotiating contracts in commercial or government settings. They must demonstrate expertise in contract law, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to solve problems independently. Additionally, they should excel in time management, teamwork, and providing high-quality, client-focused service. 

You will also have: 

  • A law degree and demonstrated experience and expertise in drafting, negotiating, and advising on contracts within a commercial or government environment 
  • Ability to apply initiative, judgment and problem solving skills, particularly to issues in commercial contracting 
  • Strong capacity to function as part of a team, including supporting other team members on a project-by-project basis 
  • Well-developed skills in time management, setting priorities, planning and organising own work and that of others in order to meet deadlines

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
