Active-Prem Research Assistant

About the Role
This role sits within the Department of Physiotherapy and the Paeds CoLAB (Paediatric Collaborative for Learning, Allied Health Research and Beyond), a group which aim to improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people, and their families. 

The majority of this role will be within the Active-Prem team, an MRFF funded project aiming to improve physical activity participation for preschool age children born very preterm (<32 weeks’ gestation). The project consists of two phases. Phase 1 (due for completion December 2024) is a co-design project, aiming to collaboratively design 1) an online training program for community physical activity coaches and 2) an online support program for parents- both for inclusion in the Active-Prem intervention. Phase 2 is a randomised controlled trial of the Active-Prem intervention. 

This role will sit within phase 2 of the Active-Prem study and will involve working collaboratively within a team environment to undertake specific tasks within the randomised controlled trial of the Active-Prem intervention.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing baseline and follow-up outcome measures with families enrolled in the trial, adhering to the study protocol
  • Managing accelerometer data collection and data management for all trial participants
  • Preparing physical activity reports for each child in the study

Note: Given the end of the year is fast approaching, we are hoping to hold interviews for this position on the week commencing December 16th 2024 with a start for the position in February 2025.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking a passionate early career researcher to join an established multi-disciplinary research team with an international reputation in paediatric physiotherapy and preterm research. Our ideal candidate is experienced in physiotherapy or occupational therapy, has strong communication skills, and is able to work with children and their families to set goals, monitor physical activity and progress over time. The successful candidate will require strong attention to detail, and be able to collect and accurately manage data for trial participants with a high degree of accuracy. The ideal candidate will be able to follow general direction, while also exercising appropriate levels of judgement as required, such as knowing when to escalate decisions.

You will also have:

  • A qualification in physiotherapy or occupational therapy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ideally, previous experience in physical activity measurement and a knowledge or experience working in paediatrics and/or disability fields

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
