Opportunity
Are you an outstanding health leader ready to be the inaugural Director of the newly established Bastas Academy for Health Leadership (BAHL or the Academy). BAHL is a joint venture between the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences and Melbourne Business School at the University of Melbourne. As the Director, you will focus on developing and supporting leaders to drive health sector excellence and innovation to address Australian and global healthcare challenges.
Leveraging the strengths of the Faculty MDHS and the Melbourne Business School (MBS), you will develop and implement a strategy to achieve the Academy’s mission of improving the impact of leadership across the health sector.
You will oversee the three strategic priorities of the Academy which are:
- Building leadership capability through tailored educational opportunities
- Fostering sector collaboration and innovation via alumni mentoring and industry partnerships
- Establishing industry and higher education partnerships for research and scholarship to drive advancements in healthcare.
About You
We seek a strategic, ethical leader with executive experience in health and higher education, excelling in collaboration, innovation, and stakeholder engagement. You are committed to excellence in learning, teaching, and interdisciplinary education, while navigating complex environments with integrity, influence, and a passion for driving positive outcomes across disciplines.
You will also have:
- A doctoral degree in a relevant field.
- A relevant international reputation in research and education and ability to establish the global standing of the Academy.
- Strong strategic, decision-making, and organisational skills to drive collaboration.
- Exceptional leadership in complex environments, fostering a collaborative culture.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
